1 Case on Captain CPKrishnan Nair of Leela Palace From the Indian Army to a sick hand loom unit and later to Star Hotels, the entrepreneurial ascent of Chittarath Poovakkatt Krishnan Nair, popularly known as Capt C. P. Krishnan Nair (who turned 90 in February 2012), would seem to be a miracle to any observers. Born in Cannanore (now ?Kannur?), Kerala, on 9th February 1922 as one of the eight children of a government bill-collector, Capt Krishnan Nair became a leader in the hospitality industry, now heading a Rs 60 billion empire - The Leela Group. His first venture, however, was a textile mill (Rajeshwari Mills in Kannur, Kerala), which he inherited from his father-in-law, followed by his own startup - The Leela Scottish Lace - founded in 1957 at Bombay (and was sold off to Bombay Rayon Fashions Ltd in July 2007). Later in 1986, he founded ?The Leela Group of Hotels and Resorts?. In 2010 he was honoured by the Government of India with ?Padma Bhushan?, one of the highest civilian awards in India. This case is prepared based the data collected from the secondary sources which was published in various articles and websites. The objective of the case is to give an insight to the new entrepreneurs to understand the journey of entrepreneurship and how innovation. Case Indian Institute of Management Bangalore
