1 Trajectory of the image of female body in Indian cinema Since the early days of cinema, the image of woman‟s body portrayed on screen has undergone transition as well as transformation. Be it from a being a voluptuous full bloom figure or size zero, the body portrayed on screen has also been influenced by the socio-economic situation of India. This paper attempts to see the trajectory of the image of female body in Indian cinema with specific reference to the popular actresses‟ body type and see if socio-economic situation was /is an influencing factor for the shift from a full body to thin waistline or higher navel which is the current fad.
